Jewellery Workshop Garden Room – Cambridge

This beautiful 30sqm Hawksbeck Garden Room in Cambridge has been transformed into a light-filled jewellery workshop and teaching space, designed for both creativity and practicality. Combining clever use of colour, natural materials, and thoughtful layout, it’s a space that inspires craftsmanship and collaboration in equal measure.
A Bright and Inviting Exterior
The exterior of the building is clad in natural cedar, providing warmth and texture that blend perfectly with the surrounding garden. French doors and three full-size windows allow light to flood into the space throughout the day, giving it an open, airy feel that’s ideal for detailed creative work. The design balances elegance with functionality, ensuring that the workshop feels connected to the outdoors while maintaining a calm, focused atmosphere inside.
A Space Designed for Creativity
Inside, the workshop embraces a rich navy and wood palette, adding depth and personality to the space. Two navy blue feature walls anchor the design, complemented by wooden desks, shelves, and cabinetry that bring warmth and balance.
The layout has been carefully considered to support both teaching and making with eight individual wooden desks arranged neatly through the centre of the room, each paired with a blue chair and fitted with a ring light or spotlight for precision work.
At the front, a large wooden desk sits beneath the window, offering the perfect spot for detailed jewellery-making with an abundance of natural light. Along the walls, blue panelled cupboards provide ample storage for tools and materials, keeping the workspace organised and clutter-free. A TV mounted on the wall, with another desk positioned below it, allows for teaching demonstrations or design presentations, while hooks for aprons ensure everything has its place.
Stylish and Functional Bathroom
The workshop also includes a private dry toilet, designed with the same attention to detail as the main space. A navy-painted feature wall adds a touch of sophistication, while blue patterned tiles above the sink introduce texture and visual interest. Wooden shelving provides practical storage and ties the room back to the warm, natural tones used throughout the building.
