This recently completed garden room project in Barnet was designed to create a calm, modern retreat that could function as both a practical living space and a relaxing escape from the main house. The client wanted a contemporary garden building with clean architectural lines, plenty of natural light, and enough flexibility to accommodate entertaining, occasional overnight guests, and day-to-day relaxation. The result consists of a 37.1sqm garden room selected from the modern range with a sleek overhang.

Contemporary Modern Design

The design chosen was from the Modern range, featuring a striking roof overhang that adds depth and character to the exterior while also providing practical shelter outside the bifold doors. A separate integrated storage room was incorporated into the layout to maximise functionality without compromising the open feel of the main room. This additional storage area allows the client to keep garden equipment and outdoor furniture neatly tucked away, helping maintain the tidiness of the surrounding garden.

Premium Exterior Finishes

Externally, the garden room combines two complementary finishes to achieve a high-end contemporary appearance. Cedar cladding was used across the front elevation to bring warmth and texture to the building, while Hardie Plank cladding was installed on the remaining elevations for durability and a crisp modern finish. The contrast between the natural timber and the smooth, hard-wearing boards creates a sophisticated exterior that sits comfortably within the landscaped garden.

Aluminium Bifold Doors

Large aluminium bifold doors were selected to maximise light and open up the space to the garden. When fully opened, the room flows seamlessly onto the patio area, making it ideal for entertaining during warmer months. The slimline aluminium frames enhance the contemporary design while providing excellent thermal performance and security.

Bright and Airy Interior

Inside, the focus was on creating a bright, airy environment with a relaxed atmosphere. Clean white walls reflect natural light throughout the space, helping the interior feel open and spacious. The minimalist colour palette was softened with carefully chosen furnishings, including a comfortable sofa, to create a dedicated chill-out area. The result is a versatile room that feels calm, welcoming, and separate from the busy pace of the main house.

Kitchenette and Shower Room

To increase the usability of the building year-round, the client opted to include a fully fitted kitchenette and shower room. These additions transformed the garden room into a self-contained lifestyle space suitable for guests, extended family stays, or long evenings spent entertaining friends. The kitchenette was designed with sleek cabinetry and compact appliances to maintain the clean visual lines of the interior, while the shower room provides modern convenience without dominating the footprint of the building.

Built for Year-Round Use

Insulation, heating, and lighting were all carefully considered to ensure comfort in every season. Integrated lighting creates a soft ambient feel in the evenings, while the highly insulated structure keeps the room energy efficient throughout the year.
