Nick and Karen from Quainton, Buckinghamshire, approached Hawksbeck looking for a garden room gym. The brief for their garden room was to create a space purely for gym equipment for the whole family to use.

We worked closely with our partners at to get the perfect work out space. Weights, weight lifting machines and a punchbag were an important part of Nick and Karen’s design brief for their garden room.

Nick wanted their garden room gym to feel modern and airy. We incorporated 3m wide bifold doors and two additional windows to the front of the garden room. We were able to further enhance the space with bespoke mirrors across the entire back wall. These were templated on site and made off site. The gym mirrors were cut in around the air conditioning unit for a perfect fit. It was important for Nick to have as fewer mirrors as possible along the 8m length of back wall, so we only used only four separate mirrors. The mirrors fitted seamlessly from the top of the skirting boards to the ceiling, perfect for checking postures during workouts.

The garden room gym was decorated in a dark blue and grey colour, making the garden room feel contemporary and giving it a distinct look and character. The flooring was supplied by Plusflooring and was a click and lock vinyl type of flooring with an integrated underlay.

The exterior of this garden room was finished in a high grade western red cedar. We incorporated a roof overhang at the front to give a modern design detail and to provide some shelter when opening and closing the garden room. Nick and Karen specified the cladding on the front fascia to be horizontal and the rest of the garden room to be vertical, which creates clean lines.

The cedar cladding of the garden room was treated with OSMO oil to protect and preserve the wood. We used OSMO 410 CLEAR which enhances the natural character of the cedar and keeps it looking great for longer. It also supports a healthy living environment without the use of biocides to ensure the dry finish is safe for humans, plant and animals.

Overall, our clients were extremely happy with their completed garden room and how it has created a wonderful additional space for their home life.
