When our client in Billericay, Essex, approached Hawksbeck Garden Rooms, they wanted a dedicated space where they could enjoy playing the piano without disrupting the rest of the household. The aim was to create a stylish, contemporary garden room that offered a peaceful retreat while complementing the existing property and garden. The result is a bespoke 18sqm piano room from our popular Classic Range, combining premium materials, practical design and expert craftsmanship to create a comfortable space that can be enjoyed throughout the year.

The garden room features a modern flat roof finished with a high-performance EPDM rubber membrane. Known for its exceptional durability and weather resistance, EPDM roofing provides long-term protection with minimal maintenance, ensuring the building performs reliably throughout the seasons.

Contemporary Exterior Design

The exterior has been designed to balance natural beauty with modern styling. The front and side elevations are clad in premium cedar, adding warmth, texture and timeless appeal to the building. To the rear, black Hardie® Plank cladding provides a durable, low-maintenance finish that contrasts beautifully with the cedar while ensuring the building remains attractive from every angle. This combination of materials delivers a contemporary appearance with long-lasting performance.

Maximising Natural Light

Natural light was an important part of the design. A two-panel anthracite grey aluminium sliding door spans the front of the garden room, creating a bright, welcoming interior and providing uninterrupted views of the garden. The slimline frames give the building a clean, modern appearance while allowing the room to feel larger and more connected to the outdoor space. Whether practising the piano or simply relaxing, the abundance of natural light creates an inviting atmosphere.

A Comfortable and Stylish Interior

Inside, the room has been thoughtfully finished to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. The floor is laid with luxury Elements LVT click-lock flooring, offering the natural appearance of timber with the durability and easy maintenance of modern luxury vinyl.

To complete the space, cream sofas and a matching coffee table provide a comfortable seating area, transforming the room into more than just a music studio. Whether practising the piano, entertaining guests or simply enjoying a quiet moment overlooking the garden, the interior offers a relaxing and multifunctional environment.
