DRUMMERS GARDEN STUDIO, SHENFIELD

Torstein and Clare approached Hawksbeck with a brief to build a drummer’s studio for their son at their home based in Shenfield, Essex.

It had to be near enough to the house so it was only a short walk away, but not too near that they could hear the drummer when their son’s band was rehearsing. Due to the large established trees in very close proximity to the proposed garden room site, our engineers designed a piled concrete foundation for the garden room to sit on.

The garden room sits on a raised area of the garden surrounded by a wall dating back to the 1900s when the grounds made up part of a large estate. The garden room is part of our Modern range of garden rooms, but with extra height, so their son can throw his drumsticks in the air! The garden room is cedar-clad on all sides of the exterior.

Torstein and Clare wanted the garden room to be future proofed, should they want to convert it into a gym, once their son leaves for university. They have a shower room with WC, so they can use their garden room for a whole host of different uses in the future. They chose a beautiful shower room set from CP Hart which we installed for them.

The garden room being light and airy was really important to Torstein and Clare, so we incorporated large 4m wide by 2.2m tall bifold doors. We also added extra windows at each end of the garden room, not only for additional light, but it also brings other areas of their beautiful garden into their garden room. All doors and windows have built-in blinds for shade from the sun and additional privacy. An invisible cedar door blends in seamlessly to the garden room.

Composite Millboard decking provides a useful step up into the garden room as well as being maintenance-free. The Hawksbeck team installed electrical sockets and wiring for their television and the air conditioning unit keeps the garden room warm in the winter and cool in the summer. To finish their garden room, we installed Havwoods engineered wooden flooring.
